Magpies move for Dutch starlet

Newcastle are on the cusp of signing Dutch starlet Tim Krul.

Newcastle are set to strengthen their goalkeeping options with the capture of Dutch starlet Tim Krul.

The Magpies are spoilt for choice in the goalkeeping department, with Steve Harper a top class understudy for undoubted number one Shay Given.

Tony Caig is also on Newcastle's books, but manager Graeme Souness would appear to be planning for the future by moving for 17-year-old shot-stopper Krul.

The teenager has not signed a professional contract with ADO Den Haag and is available on a free transfer, with Newcastle only having to pay compensation to the Dutch outfit for his education costs.

It is believed that Newcastle will have to shell out a fee in the region of ‚é¼200,000 for Krul - a sum well within budget for such a highly regarded young keeper.

Krul was the number one for the Dutch Under-17 team who finished second in the recent European Championship and that squad is seen as a golden generation for the Oranje.

Neither ADO nor Newcastle have yet to confirm the transfer, but a deal is expected to be concluded this week.
