Newcastle's Emre admits he came back too soon after injury.
Newcastle's Emre Belozoglu has admitted he came back from injury too soon after limping off during their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
Emre had missed the club's previous two games against West Ham and Bolton after picking up a hamstring injury while on international duty with Turkey.
It was this same injury that forced manager Graeme Souness to replace him after only 22 minutes.
"I am very sorry the way things worked out on Sunday, I was desperate to play in the game. I was desperate to play, and I wanted to help the team," he told the Newcastle United website.
"I was very upset to pick up the injury. It is my hamstring again, I just tried to go on a run and I felt it," he added.
The Turkish midfielder passed a late fitness test to play on Sunday but insists he will not be rushing back this time.
"It is too early to say how long I will be out for. I will miss the international game and have treatment on the injury. I don't want to set myself a target of when I will be back as I said I want to be 100 percent so I do not break down again."
Emre also spoke of his disappointment of losing to Manchester United, especially after a strong start from the home side.
"It was a good start for the first 30 minutes, we did well and had a few chances. In football you get punished by the big teams and that is what happened to us on Sunday," he explained.
