Kieron Dyer is due to make his return from injury for Newcastle's trip to Portsmouth.Kieron Dyer is due to make his comeback from injury for Newcastle United's trip to Portsmouth this weekend.
The England international has not featured for The Magpies since the home defeat to Manchester United at the end of August.
Dyer aggravated a hamstring injury in the game and later admitted he came back prematurely from the problem.
But the midfielder is poised to hand manager Graeme Souness a boost by appearing in Saturday's Premiership clash at Fratton Park.
Though Dyer is tipped to play, Emre Belozoglu, Nolberto Solano and Albert Luque will all miss the trip south.
Emre and Solano are likely to be ready to play within the next fortnight but Souness concedes Luque will take longer to return.
"It looks like Kieron Dyer will be ready for Saturday, though the others aren't ready yet," Souness told the club's official website.
"Luque is out for weeks, of course, and of the other injured players, Emre is over his hamstring but not quite ready yet, and it's the same with Nobby.
"We've got the international break coming up, though, so hopefully all but Luque will be ready after that.
"I'll look forward to that because as a manager you want to have tough decisions to make.
"The team has been picking itself this season but with a fully fit squad then I'll be confident we can push up the table and get to an area in the table where we want to be."
