Emre says Turkey must qualify for the World Cup when they face Switzerland.Newcastle star Emre Belozoglu says Turkey must qualify for the World Cup when they face Switzerland next weekend.
The 2002 World Cup semi-finalists must contend with a play-off after finishing second in their group to Ukraine, and will be hoping to avoid the kind of heartbreak that saw them fall to Latvia at a similar stage in qualification for Euro 2004.
Emre is expected to play a key role again for Turkey in the crunch clash in Switzerland on Saturday, and says the nation will be desperate to seal a spot on world football's biggest stage.
"It's an important game for the Turkey national team, very important for the Turkish people," Emre told Sky Sports.
"We have to win because we have to go to the World Cup.
"I think we have a good team, really good players, but they are a good team too.
"A very difficult game but we have to win. We need to go to the World Cup after we didn't get to the Euro Championships.
"We have to go to the World Cup."
The diminutive schemer has been in impressive form for The Magpies ever since returning from a hamstring injury and continued to win a place in the heart of the club's fans as he sealed a 1-0 win over Birmingham at the weekend.
The goal was slightly fortuitous as a blunder from Maik Taylor allowed his shot to creep in, and Emre was relieved that Graeme Souness's side prevailed in what was a difficult day for Newcastle.
"Really for us it was a difficult game, I am happy to score but today we play not very well but sometimes football is like this," Emre continued.
"I am happy and I think the fans are happy too.
"Every game is difficult, we play against West Brom away, I think as we play well away, at home it's very difficult.
"Every team is against Newcastle a little bit different you know.
"It's important for us, three points, three wins is nine points, we are very happy.
"I think a little bit lucky because the goalkeeper didn't see the ball but sometimes if it's luck it's luck, a goal's a goal."
