Glenn Roeder is hopeful Emre can feature against Birmingham at the weekend.
Glenn Roeder is keeping his fingers crossed that Turkish schemer Emre can feature against Birmingham at the weekend.
A midfield injury crisis is threatening to derail Newcastle's late charge for a Uefa Cup place, with Kieron Dyer, Scott Parker and Lee Bowyer out for the season and Lee Clark carrying an injury.
Turkish schemer Emre has not featured since picking up a groin injury against Middlesbrough, but Roeder is hopeful he can figure against Blues.
"There is a good chance for him, he's back in training," Roeder told Newcastle World.
"I did not want to take a chance with him last weekend for the West Brom game. He wants to play in every game but we didn't risk him because there was still a bit of tightness there.
"We are three or four days further down the line now and I would be surprised if he doesn't make the game.
"As I said, he wants to play in every game and it's good to have players who want to do that."
Roeder could also be boosted by the return of Michael Owen, who looks poised to take the field for the first time since breaking a bone in his foot against Tottenham on New Year's Eve.
