Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder is licking his lips at the prospect of pairing Obafemi Martins with Michael Owen.
The £27million strike duo have yet to run out together, with Owen having being ruled out through injury since the World Cup last summer.
Martins has made a name for himself in Owen's absence, scoring 16 goals in his debut campaign on Tyneside.
Even more is expected of the Nigerian next season, and Roeder believes he and Owen could wreak havoc on opposing defences.
"I'm very confident they can play together because the two of them are both great," said Roeder.
"Michael is a great goalscorer and Oba's a great prospect."
Roeder dismissed suggestions the strikers are too similar to one another to form an effective tandem.
"They may not be the tallest but a good percentage of Michael's goals have come from headers because of his knack of losing defenders inside the penalty area," he added.
"And I've never seen any striker leap so high from a standing start as Oba.
"There are plenty of examples of small strikers linking up well together but what you have to do is play to their strengths."
