Sam Allardyce could be set for an anxious wait over the future of his strikers.Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce could be set for an anxious wait over the future of his strikers after learning Obafemi Martins has a £13million get-out clause in his contract.
It is reported that the clause was included in the Nigerian international's contract following his £10million move from Internazionale last summer.
Fellow striker Michael Owen already has a £9million release fee in his contract and with speculation surrounding the England front man's future, Allardyce could yet lose two of his top forwards.
Owen is yet to confirm whether he intends to stay on Tyneside after two seasons spent blighted by injury which have seen him make just 14 appearances since his £17million move from Real Madrid.
Martins did, however, commit his future earlier this week with four years remaining on his deal at St James' as he hit back at suggestions he had gone AWOL for the final match of the season at Watford.
Chelsea chief Jose Mourinho and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger are known to be admirers of Martin.
Meanwhile, defender Steven Taylor has returned from the European Under 21 Championship in Holland with an ankle ligament injury which will rule him out of action for around four weeks.
