Defender hopes to resolve contract situation

Steven Taylor has voiced his 100 per cent commitment to Newcastle United. In September the promising defender rejected a contract offer to extend his stay on Tyneside. The 21-year-old has established himself as a defensive lynchpin at St James' Park but the offer he received from the club has not sat well with his father, and advisor, Alf.

Taylor's contractual situation has been up in the air for several months and the player's camp are hoping for an improved offer reflecting the defender's development into a genuine first team member. But the young centre-back has quashed claims that he is seeking a move away from the club, and has declared that he sees his future on Tyneside. "I want to play for Newcastle. That is my main concern," Taylor said. "I'll play, if people want to sort out the contract then that'll get sorted out. My main thing is that I want to play for Newcastle, there's no doubt about that. "I'm committed to the club 100 per cent, that's the club I want to play for."
