Obafemi Martins is hoping to help kick-start Kevin Keegan's second stint as Newcastle United manager in the coming weeks.
The Nigerian striker has yet to play for the Magpies since Keegan returned to St James' Park to replace Sam Allardyce at the helm.
Martins is now back from Africa Cup of Nations duty, although he returned from the tournament with an ankle injury.
However, the forward is confident it is not a serious problem and he is eager to play his part in reviving the club's flagging season.
"I am sure everything will be okay," said Martins. "Let's wait and see.
"I think Kevin is very busy at the moment, but he had the doctor call me to see if I am okay.
"Everything has changed. We have a new manager and he will have changed a lot of things.
"It is not a problem for me to go back and focus on starting playing."
Martins is also keen to ensure that Keegan's popularity on Tyneside does not start to slide as the manager looks for a first win.
"He did a lot for Newcastle and all the fans love him," added the former Internazionale forward. "That's why they brought him back here.
"They call him the king, so I think it is very good.
"It is very good for him as well, and the players are going to try to play for him and try our best just to make him proud."
