Steven Taylor has put contract talks on hold to focus on Newcastle's final two matches.

Newcastle defender puts contract negotiations on hold

Steven Taylor is leaving contract talks with his new agent in order to focus on Newcastle United's final two matches of the season. The defender has 12 months remaining on his current deal at St James' Park and has seen talks regarding an extension stall in recent months. A new agent has been employed to help with future discussions, with Taylor's father previously having been involved in the negotiations. The England Under 21 international has repeatedly stated his wish to stay with the Magpies, but is keen to concentrate on the upcoming games with Chelsea and Everton.

Enough talk

"The next game is the only thing I'm looking at - it's as simple as that," Taylor told the Evening Chronicle. "I've got an agent now, and I'll leave the rest to other people. "There's been enough talk all season, and I've had my say, and now I'm just getting on with my football. "I'm enjoying playing under the new manager, and I just want to play every game."
