Newcastle are interested in signing Argentine ace Pablo Aimar, according to the player's agent.
Real Zaragoza are facing a fight to keep hold of a number of their top stars, including Aimar, following their relegation from La Liga.
Aimar has been linked with a move to England in the past and now Newcastle could be ready to lure him to St James' Park.
The 28-year-old's agent Gustavo Mascardi claims he has been contacted by Newcastle regarding Aimar's availability.
"Newcastle have asked about Aimar's situation - that is certain," Mascardi told The Sunday Sun.
"There has still not been any formal offer for us and Zaragoza to study, but the Premier League would be perfect for him, and I want to speak with Newcastle to take things forward."
