Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has confirmed that the club's proposed move for Valencia striker Nikola Zigic is off.
The Premier League club have been linked with the towering forward, however skysports.com revealed on Wednesday that Zigic was stalling on a switch to the Britannia Stadium.
Pulis has now confirmed that the Serbia international will not be joining his side this summer, but spoke of his plans to strengthen before the opening fixture of the season at Bolton.
"Yes (the deal for Zigic is dead). It has finished. There will be no further progress," he told Sky Sports News.
"We have got a lot of work to do. We are still trying to get players in.
"We are hoping to bring a couple more in [before Saturday]. Then we have a couple of weeks to move people in, and one or two people will leave as well."
Faye and Faye
Pulis was also coy on reports that Stoke are lining up an offer for Newcastle United defender Abdoulaye Faye
He said: "We have been linked with loads of players. If we can do it, we will do it. If we can't, we can't."
On Amdy Faye, who has been on trial with the club, Pulis added: "Amdy has trained with us and he has been smashing.
"We have been pleased with his attitude."
