Shola Ameobi has urged his Newcastle United team-mates to ignore the off-field uncertainty on Tyneside.
The Magpies have lost back-to-back games since former manager Kevin Keegan departed St James' Park.
Keegan's successor remains unclear while owner Mike Ashley is seeking a buyer after declaring his intention to sell the club.
Ameobi, though, has called for focus as the side prepare to host Newcastle in the Carling Cup on Wednesday - a game that can been seen live on Sky Sports 2.
"The people of the North East are right behind us, but when things don't go the way we want they are going to moan which is fair but that's football," he said in The Northern Echo.
"Fans everywhere are exactly the same and it's just been a while since anything good on the pitch has come to Newcastle in terms of winning and the fans are frustrated, as we as players are.
"I'm a Newcastle fan. I know what the fans are feeling and the players. It's tough but you can't let things like this get you down. We have to make sure we rise above everything that happens as anything can in football.
"We've seen that over the last few weeks and have to do the best we can as individuals and as a team.
"We have to get the club back on track in terms of winning and focusing on what we're doing as players compared to what's going on off the pitch."
