Peruvian winger eyes third spell at St James' Park

Veteran winger Nolberto Solano could be set to make an emotional return to Newcastle United. The 35-year-old has been training with the Magpies for the last few days and hopes he can convince Chris Hughton to hand him a full-time contract. The Peruvian playmaker has already taken in two spells at St James' Park over the course of his career, with Tyneside his first port of call upon arriving on English soil in 1998. Six successful years of service followed before he was offloaded to Aston Villa. Solano was back just 18 months later, though, and spent another two years with the Magpies before moving on to West Ham. He is currently without a club after leaving Universitario de Deportes in his homeland, but is not yet ready to hang up his boots. A spell spent at League One outfit Colchester was expected to earn him a permanent deal, but both parties eventually opted against reaching an agreement. That has led Solano back to Newcastle, with the experienced midfielder hoping he will be given the opportunity to reignite his career with the Championship leaders. The club's coaching staff are reported to have been impressed by his fitness and quality and a contract could yet be put on the table.
