Northampton linked with move for defender

Skysports.com understands Newcastle defender Ben Tozer has agreed a deal to quit St James' Park. The Magpies beat a host of clubs to land Tozer from Swindon in January 2008 with the central defender regarded as one of the best youngsters in the country. But the 21-year-old has struggled to establish himself in the first-team, making just two first-team appearances. Tozer is now ready to move on in search of regular first-team football and he has agreed to cancel his contract by mutal consent to allow him to leave on a free transfer. Tozer spent the majority of last season on loan at Northampton and the Cobblers are thought to be leading the chase to snap up the defender on a free transfer.
