The Magpies have long been assured of their top-flight status and, with little to play for, their league form has been woeful in recent weeks after losing five games in a row.
Pardew looks ready to re-work a sizeable chunk of his squad, and Sky Sports understands the club are ready to bring in up to eight new faces, although there will be departures too.
"We've looked at a couple things last week that might be opportunities for us," Pardew told the Shields Gazette.
"And we also looked at a couple players for the summer.
"That's an area we need to get to, but we'll be in a good position in the summer, I think. But we need to get there first."
New managing director Lee Charnley and chief scout Graham Carr are busy pursuing Newcastle's main targets as the club hope to do business as early in the summer as possible.
Newcastle have three games remaining this season against Arsenal, Cardiff and champions-elect Liverpool.
