Newton agrees Rotherham switch

Newcastle midfielder Conor Newton will join Rotherham when his contract expires with the Premier League club.

The 22-year-old, who never featured for the Magpies first team after coming through the ranks, has spent the last 18 months on loan at Scottish Premiership side St Mirren, but opts to move south of the border to the New York Stadium on a two-year deal, subject to a medical. He becomes the Millers' first signing of the summer, though their 2014/15 season is still going with the League One play-off final at Wembley against Leyton Orient on Sunday. A statement from Newcastle said: "Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Newton every success at Rotherham and in the rest of his career." Rotherham fought off interest from Wolves to land him and he becomes the third player to join them from Newcastle, following the loan moves of James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic.
