Manchester City do not need to buy a replacement centre-back following John Stones' hamstring injury, insists ex-City defender Martin Demichelis.

Manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that England star Stones is expected to be out for between four and six weeks after picking up the knock in the weekend's win over Leicester.

Centre-back Vincent Kompany has also struggled with injury problems again this season, although he is currently fit, but Demichelis trusts Guardiola to make the right decisions for his former club.

Demichelis told Sky Sports News: "It's only my opinion but, given the size of that squad, there is no need for them to rush out and buy someone to replace Stones for the short term.

"Pep is there with the squad every day and he knows the current situation within the team and training. He'll make the decision but I think Manchester City can cover that."

Stones was forced off after 31 minutes of the 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium, which kept City top of the Premier League, and he was replaced by Eliaquim Mangala, who was available for sale in the summer.
