Andrei Kanchelskis has stoked the fire ahead of the Manchester derby by suggesting that Manchester United would be better off if they had Manchester City's Pep Guardiola in charge.
Kanchelskis represented both Manchester clubs during his playing career but admits United are the club closer to his heart.
When asked if he would prefer Guardiola to Jose Mourinho as United manager, he said: "At the moment, yes. Man City look a bit better - a higher level than United.
"United have big names, big players but looking at the games City are making a better demonstration of football."
Kanchelskis won two Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford, whereas he made just a handful of appearances on loan at City in 2001.
The former Russian international played as a winger, but he is unhappy with Mourinho's current crop of players in his old position.
Kanchelskis said: "Manchester United need someone looking to play wingers. Money is not a problem, so maybe look for two good wingers.
"Mourinho plays more defensively. Some games I am not happy. It is not like we played under Sir Alex Ferguson.
"Now it is City who play with wingers and you can see City are scoring a lot of goals."
