The veteran defender, along with Steve Howey and goalkeeper Nicky Weaver, could find their places in the side placed in doubt after disappointing performances in the Wimbledon defeat.
City have conceded an alarming 22 goals in their first 11 games and Pearce feels he has a bigger responsibility to help solve the defensive problems having been brought to Maine Road by City boss Kevin Keegan to end their defensive woes.
"I think I was at the head of the queue for criticism," said Pearce. "I am expected to do better. I was brought here to provide leadership and to bring the best out of those around me.
"Saturday's performance was just not good enough. If the manager is going to point the finger it should be at me," added Pearce.
