Although Leeds United star Dacourt is known to prefer a switch to Juventus, Lazio are on the verge of winning the race to bring him to Rome.
Sergio and Massimo Cragnotti met with the Frenchman's agent Bruno Satin in Piacenza, and reportedly agreed, in principle, a five-year contract for the former Everton man.
Leeds are due to receive é¼26 million, although there has been no official confirmation from either club that a deal has been struck.
"There's nothing yet," revealed Massimo Cragnotti. "We are still having talks but we have not reached agreement with the player."
Yet Lazio, for all their reputed cash worries, see Dacourt as only the start of another summer spending spree.
Juventus have offered Dutchman Davids to the biancoceleste, and Lazio are interested in sealing a é¼30 million deal.
Although the tigerish midfielder has many admirers within England and Germany, with Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan confirming his interest in the player on Thursday morning, a move within Serie A may appeal most.
The Italian press are speculating that Juve's friendly stance towards Lazio is a sweetener before they prepare to launch a bank-busting bid for Alessandro Nesta and Dejan Stankovic.
