Kevin Keegan has been scouring the market for a defender and he has now turned to the stopper who has attracted attention from the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle, Bayern Munich and Juventus.
The 26-year-old is now due in England to discuss personal terms over a loan to The City of Manchester Stadium.
City's David Sommeil is set to move in the opposite direction for the remainder of the current campaign.
"I believe the deal to bring Daniel here will happen," said City boss Kevin Keegan.
"But there is a chance that it will not.
"We have looked at him for quite a while, for two years in fact, as have other Premiership clubs including Newcastle and Manchester United.
"He is a good strong defender who is good on the ball and has all the experience of international football."
Should City conclude the deal then it will represent a major coup for The Citizens, who will hope his presence can inspire to climb them up the Premiership table.
