Belgium international Daniel van Buyten admits he is delighted to be joining Manchester City on loan from Marseille.
City have agreed a deal with their French counterparts to loan van Buyten until the end of the season, with David Sommeil heading in the opposite direction.
There will also be an option to make the move permanent in the summer, something which van Buyten is eager to do.
The Premiership club's manager Kevin Keegan played an integral role in persuading the 26-year-old to link up with City, particularly as he had previously interested Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Van Buyten was in Manchester on Friday to finalise the details of his switch, although he will not make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday.
Instead, the centre half is expected to be handed his City bow against Birmingham City next weekend and van Buyten is relishing his chance to play in The Premiership.
"I am satisfied to be joining Manchester City," commented van Buyten.
"Now, I am really eager to play against the great teams of the English league."
