Manchester City are on the trail of Auxerre's Finland international Teemu Tainio.Manchester City are on the trail of Auxerre's Finland international Teemu Tainio.
The former Manchester United target is being tipped as a possible signing for City during January's transfer window.
City manager Kevin Keegan is keen to add to his squad in the New Year and has earmarked players who will be Bosmans in the summer as potential recruits.
Tainio slots into that category as his contract with Auxerre expires at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old has suggested he is ready to head for The Premiership after spending over seven years with Auxerre.
That has alerted Keegan to the midfielder's possible availability for a knockdown fee when the window opens again in January.
Keegan, along with City's European scout Graham Carr, recently watched Tainio in action during Auxerre's Uefa Cup tie with AZ Alkmaar.
Tainio is thought to have impressed Keegan and a possible switch to The City of Manchester Stadium could be on the cards.
In addition to Tainio, City were also rumoured to be checking out AZ's Denny Landzaat and Auxerre's Younes Kaboul in the European clash.
Keegan, meanwhile, is being linked with a renewed attempt to sign Roma forward Mido.
The Egyptian is well down the pecking order of manager Luigi Delneri and it is being claimed that Keegan could land his man for a knockdown fee in January.
