Man City captain Sylvain Distin has revealed Joey Barton considered his future.Manchester City captain Sylvain Distin has revealed Joey Barton considered his future after being sent home from the club's tour of Thailand in disgrace.
Barton was kicked off the pre-season trip to Asia following an incident with an Everton fan which resulted in the City midfielder being fined eight weeks' wages.
It was the second time in the space of a few months that Barton has been punished heavily by City following a fracas at the club's Christmas party last year.
Distin is now trying to keep a watchful eye over the youngster but concedes Barton contemplated quitting following his recent indiscretion.
"When something happens like it did to Joey, it is understandable that he was thinking about not carrying on," said Distin. "But it was too early to start making quick decisions.
"You need to calm down and think about it and I was there to talk about it with him.
"As I said, I trust him and I know he's going to do everything he can to make it up to us."
Barton is due to make his first-team return for City against Olympiakos on Saturday and Distin has warned his colleague he must change his attitude if he wants to further his career under Stuart Pearce.
The City skipper added: "Maybe it was a good thing, maybe it was a bad thing. Whichever way you describe it, Joey knows he must do something now.
"I think he is going to take the chance the club has given him and I trust him. The problem was never about his football, it was about his attitude.
"Now he knows if he wants to succeed, he has to change his attitude."
