Stuart Pearce says he has not given hope of signing Fulham's Steed Malbranque.Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce says he has not given up hope of signing Fulham midfielder Steed Malbranque.
The Eastlands club had initially ended their interest in the Frenchman after The Cottagers rebuffed two bids for the 25-year-old.
Speaking after the club's 3-1 pre-season win over Greek giants Olympiakos on Saturday, the former England left back stated he may make another attempt to lure the playmaker to the North West.
"I have tried to bring in players every week during the summer so far and next week will be no different," Pearce said.
"At the moment, we have been unsuccessful in signing Steed Malbranque and we are looking elsewhere, but we might go back to them again.
"You never know, I have not totally given up on that one yet."
Pearce added it will be next week before he knows the extent of centre back Sylvain Distin's groin injury.
The former Paris Saint Germain and Newcastle United had to pull out of Saturday's friendly win with the problem.
With Richard Dunne also on the sidelines, Pearce may have a back-line selection problem for their Premiership season opener against West Bromwich Albion.
"Sylvain was picked to play but he felt a groin problem," Pearce added.
"We will have to give him a fitness check to see how serious it is."
