Stuart Pearce admits to having spoken to winger Kiki Musampa in a bid to improve the Dutchman's team ethic.
Manchester City gleaned the required response from the Dutch winger with a superb performance in Sunday's 2-1 win over West Ham which helped to catapult the club up to fourth.
Now Pearce has called for more of the same from the 28-year-old as City seek to maintain their excellent start with a positive result from a daunting trip to Arsenal this weekend.
"I had a little natter with Kiki at the weekend and told him that I needed a touch more from him," said Pearce.
"I told him I wasn't fussed who scores goals as long as the players are able to look each other in the eye and say 'I have done my bit for the team'.
"I'm asking Kiki to play an up and down role because I can't afford to have anyone not working for the team.
"That isn't healthy for any side and we are not good enough to carry anybody.
"Sometimes when you come from a style of play in France, Holland or Spain, players find it different in this country.
"But Kiki listened and I think he's delivered."
Pearce's endorsement will do much to encourage Musampa who has already stated his desire to remain at Eastlands beyond the expiry of his season-long loan from Atletico Madrid.
