Schmeichel off to Darlington

Man City keeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed for Darlington on loan.

Young Manchester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed for Darlington on loan.

The 19-year-old, son of Danish legend Peter, has agreed a week-to-week loan deal, meaning he will stay at The TFM Arena until both clubs decide otherwise.

Schmeichel extended his Man City contract by two years in December, but is willing to play regular first-team football at a lower level.

Meanwhile, Quakers boss Dave Hodgson has admitted that he is considering bringing Cardiff striker Andy Campbell to the North East, after he was deemed surplus to requirements by the Championship side.

"If Andy is available and there is no financial burden on us then we would be interested. If he wants to come up and train with us that's fine, we can take it from there," Hodgson said.

The manager is casting his eye over several players this month, with non-league pair Phil Brumwell and Guy Bates emerging as possible transfer targets.

French midfielder Elie Ikangu has left the club after failing to make an impact since his summer move and he has since tried his luck at Middlesbrough.
