Stuart Pearce remains hopeful that Sylvain Distin will sign a new contract.
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce is hopeful the decisions of Joey Barton and Micah Richards to sign new deals will convince Sylvain Distin to do likewise.
The French stopper is the subject of a bid from Middlesbrough as talks with City over a new contract continue to stall.
Negotiations have taken much longer than Pearce would have hoped but he is not giving up hope that Distin will put pen-to-paper on fresh terms.
Having proven to be one of City's most consistent performers over the past few seasons Pearce is understandably loath to part with the player.
"We don't want to sell Sylvain,'' said Pearce.
"We want him to stay as he is an extremely good player.
"With Joey and Micah signing new deals and five new players coming in, hopefully that will push Sylvain in the right direction.
"We would like Sylvain to be part of what we are trying to build here.
"Certainly Joey and Micah feel as though this club has a bright future - and so do I.
"We are now equipped to have a bash at the Premiership and a cup competition as well."
