Distin wants City stay

Sylvain Distin has revealed that he wants to stay at Manchester City.

Sylvain Distin has revealed that he wants to stay on as a Manchester City player this season.

The centre back was mulling over a switch to Premiership rivals Middlesbrough after both clubs had agreed a fee, with Distin having been in discussions with Boro boss Gareth Southgate.

However, the former Paris Saint Germain and Newcastle United defender has declared he wants to stay at The City of Manchester Stadium for the final year of his contract.

"As I have the opportunity to talk about it, I will tell you the truth," Distin told French television channel TPS after playing 90 minutes of City's 3-0 season-opening defeat at Chelsea.

"I am a professional, I am 100 percent (Manchester) City, and don't want to leave my club."

Distin's declaration will be a major setback for Boro, as Southgate looks to find a new central defender before the August 31 transfer deadline.
