Distin set to snub Boro

Sylvain Distin has decided to see out the last year of his deal with Man City.

Sky Sports News understands that Sylvain Distin has decided to see out the last year of his contract with Manchester City.

The French defender has been in demand during the transfer window, with cash-rich Portsmouth keen admirers at one stage, but Middlesbrough stole a march on their rivals by agreeing a fee of £4.5 million.

Distin has been discussing a move with Boro but now Gareth Southgate looks to have missed out on another defensive target after Pearce gave the player a deadline of Thursday to decide where his future lies.

The 28-year-old has seemingly decided to remain at Eastlands with just one year left on his contract, meaning City could lose him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

However, Distin's decision to stay is a major fillip for Pearce and the City boss will no doubt try and convince the stopper to sign a new deal at The Premiership side in the coming months.
