Weaver relishes second chance

Man City keeper Nicky Weaver admits he feared for his career before this season.

Manchester City keeper Nicky Weaver admits he feared for his career before he was handed an unexpected chance to impress in The Premiership this season.

The 27-year-old saw a once promising early career ravaged by knee injuries, and before the start of the current campaign had played just one league game for City in three years.

However the sale of David James and an injury to new keeper Andreas Isaksson has seen Weaver play in all three of City's games so far this season, and the shot stopper says feels like he has a new lease of life at Eastlands.

Indeed the former Mansfield trainee admits his succession of injuries led him to contemplate his future in the game at one stage.

"There were times when I didn't think the day would come when I would play again," said Weaver.

"This has felt like a new start for me."
