Crewe Alexandra have decided to make defender Billy Jones available for transfer.
Crewe Alexandra have decided to make defender Billy Jones available in the January transfer window.
The 19-year-old will be allowed to move on from the League One club in the New Year after Jones turned down a new contract with The Railwaymen.
The player's decision prompted the Cheshire club's board to meet and decide reluctantly to recoup some kind of financial return for the former trainee before his contract expires next summer.
"The board met yesterday to discuss the situation with Billy," manager Dario Gradi told the club's official website.
"The club have come to the decision that his availability will be circulated to make clubs aware of the situation.
"It is somewhat out of our hands now and we have not heard anymore from him.
"I'm sure there are people watching him, but we have not received an offer for him."
Jones has been linked with Premiership side Manchester City, with their manager Stuart Pearce confirming they are keeping tabs on up-and-coming players in The Football League.
Meanwhile, Crewe defender Darren Moss is set to miss the next few weeks after being told he needs an operation to treat a hernia problem.
