Distin committed to City

Sylvain Distin is hopeful he proved his commitment to Manchester City on Wednesday.

Sylvain Distin is hopeful his stunning goal against Aston Villa in midweek will prove to his critics that he is fully committed to Manchester City.

The French defender has been persistently linked with a move away from Eastlands over the course of the last year and the talk has continued with him stalling on signing a new deal.

Distin could walk away from City on a free transfer in the summer, but he has kept his own counsel on his contractual situation at the club.

He proved his focus is as sharp as ever when netting a goal-of-the-season candidate against Villa and after the game, he aimed a swipe at his critics.

"I have now shown to people who don't think I am here for the right reasons, that I am," Distin told the Daily Star. "My goal was a little message and it came through determination, nothing else.

"It was important for me because of the situation I am in.

"There have been lots of people talking and saying things that are not true and so far, I have never answered and just shown what I am about on the pitch."
