Micah Richards believes Manchester City team-mate Michael Johnson could soon be joining him in Steve McClaren's England squad.
The Eastlands duo have experienced similar football educations, with Richards and Johnson having graduated together at City's highly-rated academy.
Richards' rise to full international honours has been hugely impressive but this season Johnson is beginning to make headlines of his own.
A series of mature displays in the centre of City's midfield have not gone unnoticed, with the 19-year-old having established himself as a first choice under Sven Goran Eriksson.
While Richards accepts competition for a place in England's midfield is fierce, he is also confident Johnson can force his way into the reckoning.
"I am not surprised Michael has been getting so much praise recently - his performances speak for themselves," Richards told BBC Sport.
"Everyone can see he is a class player and, with hard work in the next couple of years, he is capable of just about anything.
"He has been playing for England Under 21s but his aim has got to be the senior team.
"Obviously it is not going to be easy with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Owen Hargreaves and Gareth Barry in his position.
"But he is still only young and, in time, I believe he will play in centre midfield for England."
