Manchester City manager Sven Goran Eriksson believes Michael Johnson could avoid surgery on a groin injury.
The promising midfielder has been a real success story this season for City but is currently sidelined with a troublesome groin complaint.
Johnson, 19, has withdrawn from the England Under 21 squad to face Montenegro and Republic of Ireland in forthcoming European qualifiers, but Eriksson is hopeful he could yet avoid the surgeon's knife.
"He's been to see the specialist and for now we think that he's going to have a special injection and hopefully that will be it," the Swede told the club's website.
"We are not talking about operating at this moment, so I hope he can start training on Monday, but we are not sure yet.
"He has pain and has done for a long time and of course after training and after matches it's got worse and worse."
