Skipper expects exciting times at Eastlands

Manchester City skipper Richard Dunne admits he has been shocked by the recent events at the club. Dunne, who is currently away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, says the whole club has been given a lift by the investment of prospective new owners, the Abu Dhabi United Group and the sensational signing of Robinho. The Abu Dhabi United Group have pledged to spend large sums on new players as they look to establish City as a major force at home and abroad. Dunne believes the future is bright for City due to the influx of money and that everyone connected with the club is looking forward to the rest of the season. "It has been fantastic, it was a great day for everyone involved," Dunne told Sky Sports News. "It is exciting and great for the future and exciting times for everybody. "Everyone was just amazed and were wondering where did this come from?

Out of the blue

"It was just a shock and out of the blue for everybody. "It is just a great thing for the club because for so long we have had our ups and downs and the fans have obviously suffered because of that, but hopefully now with a very strong backer they can look forward to better times." Dunne also backed the signing of Robinho and he believes City boss Mark Hughes is putting together an impressive squad at Eastlands. "The manager is building a good side," added Dunne. "Since he has come in I think the side has got a lot stronger and for him to have the financial backing makes the whole place be high. "Everyone is looking forward to the season and the future to be challenging for trophies."
