Spaniard admits defeat was hard to take

Manchester City defender Javier Garrido has turned his attention to league matters following their defeat in the Carling Cup. Roberto Mancini's side went down 3-1 to rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday, meaning they crashed out in the semi-finals after a 4-3 aggregate defeat. Garrido admits Wayne Rooney's late winner was a bad way to exit the competition, but the Spanish left-back insists City will bounce back when they return to Premier League duty against Portsmouth on Sunday. "What happened is sad but we must lift ourselves," he told City's official website. "The Portsmouth game is very important because we must keep working to finish in the top four. "Also, we are still in the FA Cup, so we must do our best to get to the final of that."

Unlucky

Garrido, who is enjoying a more prominent role in team now that Mancini is in charge at Eastlands, thinks his side deserved to take Wednesday's game to extra time. However, despite another goal from Carlos Tevez against his former club, City's dreams of reaching a cup final at Wembley for the first time since 1981 were dashed. "It is not easy to take because we were nearly in the final," he added. "We showed we are a quality team and we deserved extra time. "But you must concentrate, especially against a team like Manchester United who can score at any time."
