Emmanuel Adebayor has called on the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to resign after Togo's ban from the African Cup of Nations.
Togo have been banned from the next two African tournaments after pulling out of this month's finals following a terrorist attack on their team bus, which left three people dead.
The attack in the Angolan enclave of Cabinda prompted Togolese prime minister Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo and president Faure Gnassingbe to order their team back without playing in the finals.
CAF have now confirmed the two-tournament ban on Saturday, with CAF president Issa Hayatou saying the decision to withdraw was based on 'governmental interference'.
But Togo captain and Manchester City striker Adebayor has branded the decision as 'outrageous', claiming Hayatou had 'completely betrayed' the Togo squad.
Must escape
He has called for Hayatou to leave his post, telling
L'Equipe: "Mr Hayatou has served Africa extensively, but now he must escape.
"This decision is outrageous."
The striker, who is expected to make his first start for City on Sunday since the tragedy, added: "They do not care about the voice of the world.
"It was our head of state (Gnassingbe) who sent us to the African Nations Cup to defend the colours of our country.
"He said the threat surrounding our squad had not gone and told us to return to our country.
"We are only ambassadors. We were obliged to return, and there was nothing we could do."
Velud astonished
Togo's French coach, Hubert Velud, was also astonished by the decision and wants to know whether it is one supported by Fifa president Sepp Blatter and Uefa chief Michel Platini.
"I am curious to know if Blatter and Platini will endorse this decision," he said.
"If they let this go, it is the gateway to completely dysfunctional football.
"I officially launched an appeal to international bodies to see their reaction."
