Man City captain Vincent Kompany has set his sights on winning the Europa League after being knocked out of the Champions League.

City captain believes the Europa League is now a 'realistic competition'

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has set his sights on winning the Europa League after being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League. A 2-0 win over Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium on Matchday Six was not enough for Roberto Mancini's men when combined with Napoli's win over Villarreal. City will instead drop into the secondary competition of the Europa League, where derby rivals Manchester United will also be competing after they were also knocked out of the Champions League. But Kompany was not overly dejected when speaking after the win over Bayern and he wants to help Premier League leaders City claim more silverware after last season's FA Cup.

Disappointed

"We have our 10 points [in the Champions League], but obviously we're disappointed," Kompany told Sky Sports HD2. "Well done to Napoli. I think they've had a good season. "The Champions League has finished for us, but there's still so much to achieve this season and the Europa League is a realistic competition for us now. We'll celebrate any cup. "On the pitch, we had absolutely no idea [that we had not qualified]. I thought at 2-0 up the fans would have been more enthusiastic if we had qualified. "We kind of had this feeling, but we didn't know."
