The Serie A club are looking to sign a top-class striker to reinforce their attacking line for next season.
Manchester City striker Dzeko, Chelsea forward Fernando Torres and Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata are all reported to be potential transfer targets for Inter.
Kovacic has now urged Inter to recruit Bosnia & Herzegovina international Dzeko, whose current contract with City runs out in June 2015.
"We need a top player to reduce the gap between the top teams and us," the 19-year-old told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Who would I prefer between Edin Dzeko, Fernando Torres and Alvaro Morata? Dzeko.
"He is technically very strong, scores many goals and helps the team so much in defending."
Kovacic added that he is enjoying playing for Inter, and that he has no problems with his coach Walter Mazzarri.
"I am fine here and now I am thinking only about the last four Serie A matches and about the World Cup," said the Croatia international.
"I am happy to have played the last few games and now I hope to keep my place.
"With Walter Mazzarri, I have never had any problems. I worked hard in training, waiting for my chance."
