Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Gaston Ramirez on a permanent deal, according to Sky sources.

The 25-year-old Uruguay international midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan to Boro from Southampton, scoring seven times in 18 Championship appearances to help secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.

And Ramirez, whose St Mary's contract was up earlier this summer, has joined Aitor Karanka and his squad on a trip to Marbella after agreeing a three-year deal, subject to a work permit.

Saints paid Bologna £12m for Ramirez four years ago, but he started just 23 Premier League games for the club and spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Hull.

Karanka has now brought in seven players ahead of the new season, which begins with a home game against Stoke on August 13.
