Hartson has been linked with a move away from the club, after the Norwegian owners told manager Terry Burton that he needs to reduce the wage-bill at Selhurst Park.
Middlesbrough and Charlton were thought to be the clubs at the head of the queue for the Welsh international, and now Curbishley has revealed an interest.
Curbishley said: "I got a call from Terry, asking about the possibility of signing Kevin Lisbie. As part of the conversation, I enquired about the possibility of signing John Hartson.
"It was the type of conversation that managers have every day of the week, and I'm upset that it's all been made public just to create a story for the papers.
"There are other people, like agents, involved but I'm a bit surprised this has come out - I haven't even mentioned it to Kevin.
"I spoke to Terry and that's how it was left. Something needs to be done now."
The 25-year-old former Arsenal target-man, was the subject of a £6 million bid from Rangers last month, but that move collapsed when he failed a medical at Ibrox.
Wimbledon`s owners Kjell Inge Rokke and Bjorn Rune Gjelsten do not want to sell their star-striker, but they are well aware that their overheads need reducing and cannot live off the current crowds they are getting in the First Division, and so either Hartson or strike partner Jason Euell look set to leave the South London club.
Charlton are said to be very keen on Hartson, as Curbishley`s men aim to stay in the Premiership after being promoted last season. However, with a fee likely to be in the region of £4-£5 million it would be a major investment for the South London club, but they seem keen to bolster their strike force and will allow Lisbie to move in the opposite direction.
The 22-year-old has come through the ranks at The Valley and has made the breakthrough this season, playing 12 games for the first-team and scoring two goals.
Hartson has also suffered a knock in training this week and is doubtful for Saturday`s game with Nottingham Forest.
