The 23-year-old, who has already seen a potential move to Chelsea collapse this summer, is flying into the North East of England on Thursday to finalise the terms of the transfer.
The player, who is likely to fill a defensive midfield role for Boro, admitted he was excited by the prospect.
"I like English soccer," he said. "The Premier League is the one of the best competitions in the world and it is a very attractive option for me."
Geremi had been somewhat reluctant to quit Santiago Bernabeu, but sports director Jorge Valdano told the African and six other squad members to leave the club as they would not be registered to play next season.
With that in mind, Geremi has now agreed to the Boro deal in principle, which will see him earn around £1.1 million for his 12 months on Teesside - which is actually a pay-rise for the former Genclerbirligi star.
Boro have also insisted on an option to buy the player at the end of the spell - which both Real and Geremi have accepted - although, with three years still remaining on his contract with the European champions, it would cost the Teesside club a lot of money to complete the signing on permanent basis.
Geremi will undergo a routine medical over the weekend and, barring any last minute hiccups, should be unveiled by Middlesbrough next week.
