Harrison, who trains Boro's first team squad, has tipped the former Manchester United star to make the full international side in the future.
"He's certainly got the ability to do it, and he's got the will to do it and the desire.
"He just needs to improve his end product. He's making goals and he's creating opportunities for others, but he needs to take a few himself.
"When you watch him in training he gets in shots and hits the target.
"Jon's got to get 50 or 60 games under his belt and he needs eight, nine or ten goals in a season and then, who knows? He's more than capable of doing it.
"It can't do any harm working so closely with Steve, though the main man Mr Eriksson picks the team."
The former England Under-21 star struggled to settle on Teesside following his move from Old Trafford last summer, but he has started the new campaign in superb form and he is beginning to win over even his harshest of critics at The Riverside.
"He's stronger and he's more confident now," Harrison admitted.
"Jon's really grasped the nettle this season, he's taken his chance and grafted hard.
"Last year he got a bit of stick from sections of the crowd but he didn't let it get him down. And he the right thing when it wasn't going well, he didn't stop looking for the ball.
"That's great for a player, he never stopped looking for it and I think the crowd started to appreciate that." Greening himself admits that an England call-up is not really on his mind.
"It's too early to start talking about that, though if it did come about somewhere down the line I would be absolutely delighted." he said.
"I just want to take one match at a time and continue to keep playing well for Middlesbrough.
"Of course, I keep dropping hints to the manager!"
