FA to investigate Riverside fracas

THE Football Association have confirmed that they have launched a formal investigation into events at the end of Saturday's 2-2 draw between Middlesbrough and Leeds United at the Riverside Stadium.

A heated affair saw Leeds striker Alan Smith along with Boro defender Franck Queudrue red-carded and scuffles between both sets of players continued after the final whistle.

Boro midfielder George Boateng appeared to spit in the direction of Nick Barmby and later accused him of issuing racist remarks, something the England man has vehemently denied.

Events are thought to have continued in the tunnel with Boateng accused of attacking Barmby. The latter had a large gash on his face the following morning.

The FA will look at the match officials' reports as well as using video evidence and interviewing key individuals concerned to get to the bottom of the matter.
