The left-sided full back has returned to Fulham after his intial loan spell ended on Thursday.
Blades boss Neil Warnock is keen to bring in a new defender for next week's Worthington Cup semi-final with Liverpool
"Jon did want to stay, especially as he helped us into the semi-finals, but he has been recalled and I expect him to play for Fulham at the weekend," Warnock told the club's official website.
Meanwhile, Warnock has played down reports suggesting that former loan star Dean Windass could be about to return to Bramall Lane on loan.
The Middlesbrough striker enjoyed a successful loan spell at United last month scoring three goals in four games before returning to The Riverside.
Warnock is thought to be keen on having him back, but admitted a new defender is top of his wanted list.
"I don't expect to make a striker signing for a few days yet, a full back is my priority at the moment," said Warnock. "In any case, I have reason to believe Dean will be involved in Middlesbrough's fixture on Saturday."
