Derby deny Christie bid

DERBY COUNTY have denied reports that they have received a bid from Leeds United for highly-rated striker Malcolm Christie.

It was believed that Terry Venables was lining up a £2 million bid for Christie to replace Robbie Fowler who looks set to join Manchester City in a £7.5 million deal.

The Elland Road side have been forced to sell some of their star players to ease debts, but Fowler's imminent departure from the club will leave Venables short of options in attack.

Middlesbrough are also interested in the Under-21 striker, and fellow Ram Chris Riggot, whilst Southampton are after defender Danny Higginbotham.

Pride Park officials know they must make a decision on any transfers soon as the transfer window reaches the half-way stage.

County also have crippling debts and know that they must listen to any realistic offers for their star players.
