The 24-year-old, who joined the Teessiders in a £2 million move from Manchester United in August 2001, has been a consistent performer for Boro.
Greening has played every match in The Premiership this season, with the England man looking to finish his campaign on a positive note at relegation-threatened Bolton Wanderers.
McClaren was adamant that despite reported interest from clubs on the continent, Greening is a key part of his future plans for Boro.
"Jonathan's massively important to the future of Middlesbrough, which is why we signed him," said McClaren.
"We knew he had the potential and he just needed the stage on which to show it.
"He had a difficult season last season but this time he's really come through and done well.
"He's a fantastic asset to us, played a massive part in our progress and his contribution has been enormous.
"It's a fantastic achievement that he's started and finished every game."
Meanwhile, the Riverside club have been linked with a possible move for Brazilian attacking midfielder Juliano Rodrigo this summer.
The South American has been on a season-long loan from Brazilian side Botafogo but a knee injury in pre-season this term has limited his playing time at Goodison Park.
