The Cameroonian star performed very well during his stay at Boro, following his loan move from Real Madrid.
However, The Teessiders are struggling to broker a deal with The Spaniards - who are holding out for a fee of £9 million.
Boro agreed a set fee for Geremi at the start of last season, but they are now offering less than half that amount and Real do not seem to be budging on their valuation.
Upon his departure, Geremi said:"To arrive in England for the first time and play the way I have in the Premiership really pleases me.
"That was one of the best seasons of my career.
"English football is all about the Premiership, which is one of the best leagues in the world. I have enjoyed it, and I didn't expect to score so many goals.''
If Boro fail to agree a fee, then Geremi could very well find himself back in Real's first team plans.
Current Real midfielders Claude Makelele and Flavio Conceicao have been linked with possible summer moves and Geremi could yet be used by the Spanish giants next term.
